I once asked myself, in a society where mediocrity has become the accepted norm, is it not the time for a responsible government to reward endeavor, not lethargy? For it is a vital aspect for the populace to be required to contribute to society for obvious reasons.
Yet I have come to the conclusion that the Australian government in fact needs to improve and maintain the welfare of its citizens. For the rising costs of expenses such as the mortgage costs, escalating by 32 percent annually and grocery bills rising by 20 percent, consequently leads to lower standards of living. A poor standard breeds a poor outlook, poor education and low self esteem. Moreover Poverty transforms into violence, unrest, and degradation of health and general wellbeing.
I have studied the mechanics of Capitalism, and have fond that numerous experts agree, for an effective ideal capitalist society approximately 5 percent should be unemployed. This is due to the fact that, if everyone was employed then undoubtedly demand for higher wages would increase. For if everyone is employed then there would be no one competing for the job prospect and thus employers are compelled to succumb to the employees demands. The question is, should we simply let those 5 percent to starve? It is certainly not their blunder that they’re unemployed; it is simply a bad stroke of luck. Governments have a choice, help the helpless or simply discard them.
Government regulations assist the masses and ensure that they enjoy a respectable standard of living. This can be seen throughout time, an exceptional example of this is the introduction of minimum wages. Numerous adults are forced to work minimum wage jobs in order to sustain their family. During the industrial revolution, it is a known fact that prior to the implantation of minimum wage, factory companies often hired children and teenagers for a fraction of the price. Bearing in mind that minimum wage jobs typically require little training, thus it was quite simple to replace workers if any conflict arise. Consequently, countless families suffered a horrible fate and frequently their children did not receive an education in order to have the prospect of an improved future. Accordingly, the cycle repeats itself.
Hence, governments actively need to decrease the gap between the privileged and under privileged. The government and mankind as a whole profit from the endeavor due to the fact that higher education develops humanity as a whole and ‘opens the door’ to world peace and prosperity.
Moreover, during the 1980's, my uncle benefited greatly from the Labor Government which had a range of Employment Schemes. The Government basically paid Local Councils to employ people for 6 month periods. During that era, my relative acquired confidence and a job that paved way into him gaining a full-time job a good life and a his son a bright future.
Encapsulating my argument, the governments are required to vigorously and actively enclose the class gap and ensure financial security to its populace. For it has been revealed that on average top 9 happiest counties in the world are socialist or invest heavily on a socialist plan.
